This time I was very lucky to accompany Ajith on a one-day tour around Ella. A couple from Dubai had booked the tour and it was unforgettable not only for them, but also for me. We started early in the morning at the Ravana waterfalls, which are currently ranked as one of the widest waterfalls in Sri Lanka. If you come there one day, I am sure Ajith will tell you the legend of king Ravana and the kidnapping of princess Sita. A story which gave the waterfall its name. The very special thing about this site is that you can see, play and feed wild monkeys. They come very close and are very calm. After a delicious lunch at a local restaurant, we took a little break during a TukTuk drive to the famous Nine Arch Bridge, also called “The Bridge in the Sky”. This architectural beauty is one of the best examples of colonial-era railway construction in the country. It is beautiful and definitely a must see, when in Sri Lanka. But what would our tour be without a little thrill: walking on the train rails is also mandatory, but you have to watch out for the actual train. On the way back we had a little stop at the Ravana pool club to get some cool drinks. All refreshed and vitalized we continued to Dhowa Rock Temple, which is a Buddhist temple famous for its massive Buddha statue caved into the granite rock. This monument is well hidden from the main road, but no problem for Ajith, who knows exactly where to go. He also knows a lot about the cultural and historic aspects of this place.
